Roger Knight
Roger Knight had a distinguished 43-year career with Victoria Police, spending 15 years in the State Forensic Science Laboratory’s Photographic Section. He played a key role in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), capturing critical evidence in mass fatality events like bushfires and aircraft accidents. This job required meticulous attention to detail, as every photograph was crucial for the judicial process.
While forensic photography was intense, Roger also pursued wedding photography on weekends. As his career advanced, he became Senior Sergeant and led the Photographic Section before returning to general policing.
After leaving the lab, Roger sold his photographic equipment, disillusioned by the emotional toll. However, he rediscovered his passion when asked to photograph his niece’s wedding, which reignited his love for photography.
In 2015, Roger retired due to PTSD and turned his focus to drone photography, becoming a certified drone pilot. He now runs a business specialising in large-scale industrial photography, with a focus on heavy-lift projects, time-lapse, and night photography for unique perspectives.
Roger’s passion for photography continues to evolve. He embraces panoramic imagery and natural light, seeking to capture reality and push his creative limits.
