Berriwillock Rodeo Exhibition Philip Down
Philip is a photographer with deep roots in the landscape of rural Victoria. Born and raised on a wheat and sheep farm in Speed, at the heart of the Mallee region, Philip continues to live and work there with his family. As a farmer, his life is shaped by the weather and land, providing him with a unique and deep understanding of the environment that surrounds this Gallery.
The expansive Mallee landscape, with its endless skies, open spaces and changing seasonal colours, offers constant inspiration. Philip’s photography is defined by his daily environment, capturing the essence of rural life and the subtle, fleeting moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. This profound connection is the foundation of Philip’s creative vision. His work reflects both the strength and the quiet beauty of the land, evoking a deep reverence for the place he calls home.
In March of this year, Skymirror invited Philip to serve as one of the official photographers for the highly successful Berriwillock Rodeo. This exhibition presents a selection of his images from the event, offering an intimate glimpse into the speed, energy, and colour of the day.
‘The power, speed, colour and action were all evident during the four hours at Berriwillock. This exhibition is a selection of images chosen to give insight into the action and excitement of the day.’ - Philip Down
